D-Day Commemorations at Courcelles
The D-Day commemorations have grown over the years and now run for almost a month between mid-May and mid-June - focussed of course on the week around the June 6 anniversaries of the Normandy landings.
At Courcelles, there was a display of military vehicles from the war era in front of the museum and monument to Canadian war dead, overlooking Juno Beach where thy landed. 73 years on, it is a peaceful place, especially at low tide where there is a large expanse of sand and it is possible to get a sense of the scale of the landings.
Away from the beach, the town also has a traditional fishing port where trawlers land their catch and it is sold at stalls all along the quayside.
